Fete On Saturday and Sunday the 22nd and 23rd of November 2008, Archangel Michael & Saint Anthony’s Church celebrated the momentous annual church fete. The fete was a huge success. Despite the rainy weather, it was well attended by the Church and broader Oakleigh community. Highlights included Stewarts great shave, the Egyptian food and sweets, children’s activities and many other exciting attractions. The youth’s involvement was particularly notable, and the entire church congregation helped make the fete run smoothly. May God bless all who were involved in this wonderful event and may the next years fete be bigger, better and warmer. Egypt in 3D

Thanks to a City of Monash, Community Arts Grant we were able to launch our project “Egypt in 3D; Our Civilisation” project during our Annual Fete. The project traces the Flight of the Holy Family through out Egypt in a 3 dimensional model. Rivers, mountains and hills gives one a felling of flying over Egypt in the 1st century. Photographs highlight important sites and stops made by the Holy Family. Pharaonic artefacts are drawn using a special ancient Egyptian technique of burning leather.

Following on from the success of “Egypt in 3D”, St Anthony’s Youth Club another Community Arts Grant to teach Digital Art has been awarded to continue the good work. The exhibition will remain on display at the church for a few weeks.

Carols in the Park

Archangel Michael & St Anthony’s Youth Choir and our Deacons Choir participated in the 2008 Carols in the Park organised by the Combined Churches of Oakleigh. Our two choirs received high acclaim by all as they sang praised and melodies of Christmas. This is our 4TH year of participating in this celebration.

Bishop Ashia of Tahta

His grace Bishop Ashia of Tahta visited the church on December 5TH to give a Diocese wide general youth meeting and his grace conducted an open forum of discuss issue young people may have with their families. His grace summarised the direction of life as 1. Use the Bible as your Life Directory the same way as you use a street directory to go to places you haven’t been before, 2. Be very close and honest with your confession father, 3. Be very close and honest with your parents, 4. Don Try new things just for the sake of the experience. Archangel Michael & St Anthony’s Church is very special to his grace, as he served this congregation for three years from 1978 to 1980 and his grace purchased the Drummond Street property.
